He began his legal career at Oxford University in 1989 after completing his doctoral degree, where he taught corporate finance, corporate insolvency, company law, contracts, and trusts for several years before moving into full-time commercial practice.

He practised as a commercial barrister at South Square Chambers, Gray’s Inn, London, providing transactional advice, drafting, and litigation services to clients in England and internationally. In 2003, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC) in England, and in 2004, on his appointment as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)—the Nigerian equivalent of QC—he founded ODITAH, alongside his Lagos-based colleagues.

Fidelis possesses extensive knowledge and practical experience in Nigerian and English commercial law, banking and finance, corporate law, energy and natural resources, and insolvency.
